Professional Bushing Removal & Installation
Removing the original E30 rear subframe bushings without a dedicated tool can be extremely difficult. The design of the subframe provides very little surface area against which conventional pullers can work.
This tool is specifically designed to work with the narrow edges of the subframe exposed through the molded notches in the bushing, allowing the bushing to be pulled out with controlled force.
After removal, the same tool can be used to install a wide range of replacement bushings, including:
- OEM BMW M3 bushings
- Delrin bushings
- UHMW bushings
- Urethane bushings
- Solid aluminium bushings
- Other compatible aftermarket bushings
Designed for Easy, Controlled Installation
For access to the upper side of the bushings, the rear subframe should be lowered approximately 4 inches. Completely removing the subframe will provide the easiest access and working conditions.
During installation, correct alignment is essential:
- The flats on the small tube/washer assembly must align with the dimples in the subframe.
- The slot in the replacement bushing must align with the raised dimples in the subframe.
- Incorrect alignment may cause the components to interfere with the subframe.
Please refer to the product images for detailed positioning and installation guidance.
Heavy-Duty Components
Every component is selected to withstand the substantial forces generated during bushing removal and installation.
The tool features:
B7-grade industrial threaded rod
Approximately 120,000 PSI tensile strength, compared with around 50,000 PSI for conventional hardware-store threaded rod.
High-strength steel washers
Designed to distribute load evenly during operation.
Bronze oil-impregnated sleeve/thrust bearing
Protects the threaded rod while allowing smooth movement through the main pulling washer.
Needle bearing
Reduces friction and the amount of torque required during both removal and installation.
Flange nuts
Help distribute forces evenly across the bearings and keep the assembly properly aligned.
Lock nut
Allows the appropriate nut to remain stationary while the taller hex nut is turned against the bearing.
Recommended Use
For best results:
- Use hand tools whenever possible.
- Thoroughly grease the threaded rod before use.
- A small amount of soap can be used on OEM rubber bushings during installation to help them slide into position.
- When installing solid aluminium bushings, grease is recommended to ease installation.
- Keep the tool and bushing correctly aligned throughout the entire operation.
